Peplum Lehengas & why we love them!

brides engagement outfits indian weddings indianbrides lehenga peplum lehenga weddinginspiration

Think of an Indian Bride.......and we instantly imagine a Lehenga, Blouse and Dupatta clad shy demure bride....and these days mostly two dupattas. Well!  we don't blame you as coming from traditional values and of course love for them, the Indian bride did not have many options.

And then there is the growing pressure of dressing up for the wide range of the ceremonies which start from the roka to engagement to pre-wedding to mehndi to haldi to sangeet to the w e d d i n g......and you just can't be wearing lehenga for all of them. We know there is an option of having a lehenga  in different colors and of course drape the dupatta differently. But....the new Indian Global Bride decided to play up the game with a taller, sleeker and more functional look and there came the love for Peplum Lehengas.

So a peplum lehenga gives you clear advantage in the following terms:

  • Gives a far more relaxed and contemporary silhouette than the traditional lehenga
  • Adds to your height as the outfit does not break in between like a choli and lehenga
  • You can always manage the peplum to fit where your waist measures least for a slimmer waistline illusion  (of course if you need!)e
  • Helps to cover your belly or waist without draping the dupatta all around yourself
  • Sheer peplums made in tulle, chiffons or georgettes give you excellent opportunity to show off your narrow waistline
  • Wearing a peplum for initial ceremonies adds one more style to your bridal trousseau
  • And you can always have a little swirly fun when you go for a shy dance for your engagement or roka ceremony

Some details to keep in mind while getting yourself a peplum lehenga:

    • Keep the peplum top and lehenga in single colour to gain height
    • You can choose to have a contrasting dupatta and carry it on one shoulder to cut the width in case you need to work on you size and look awesome in the pictures
    • Go for well fitted full sleeves it gives you a smarter look
    • You can choose for sleeves in contrast as compared to your peplum bodice to give you a slimmer look
    • Always go for light fabrics like tulle, chiffon and georgettes as you dont want to look blown up in the middle which will be the case with a brocade, sating or silk peplum.
