Conservation Approach
Our Principles. Our Methods. Our Responsibility.
At Rang Riwaaz, textile conservation is not a service — it is a stewardship. Every fragile heirloom entrusted to us is approached with the same care, restraint, and ethical responsibility that guides museum conservation practice.
Our approach is grounded in five core principles:
1. Minimal Intervention We do only what is necessary to stabilise the textile. Nothing more. Every decision is made to preserve the original character, structure, and historical integrity.
2. Reversibility Wherever Possible Treatments are designed so future conservators can undo or improve them as techniques evolve.
3. Respect for Original Materials We work with conservation‑grade silks, cottons, and metallic threads that support — never overpower — the original textile.
4. Ethical Decision‑Making We do not “beautify” or alter history. We preserve what exists, honouring age, patina, and provenance.
5. Documentation & Transparency Every textile receives a detailed condition report, treatment plan, and photographic documentation before and after conservation.
This is the foundation of our conservation practice — quiet, precise, and deeply respectful.
