Grandmother’s Saree for Bride
This heirloom saree belonged to the bride’s grandmother and is being restored so the bride can wear it for one of her wedding functions — a quiet continuation of lineage, memory, and love. The piece arrived with faded colour, fragile silk, and visible stains and soiling from long‑term storage.
To honour its original artistry while ensuring it can be safely worn, we will recreate the saree by transferring all original motifs onto fresh silk, preserving its design language and emotional significance.
Before Restoration
Condition Summary
-
Colour significantly faded
-
Silk base fragile and weakened
-
Multiple stains and areas of surface soiling
-
Age‑related wear across the body and pallu
-
Not structurally strong enough to be worn
Assessment We examined the weave, motifs, zari, and overall structural condition to determine the safest conservation‑aligned pathway.
Treatment Plan
-
Carefully detach and preserve all original motifs
-
Transfer motifs onto newly woven silk matching the original base
-
Reconstruct missing or weakened motif elements
-
Stabilise zari and fine threadwork
